Human-mediated translocations brought pigs (Sus) to Wallacea and Oceania, profoundly affecting ecosystems.

We analyzed 576 pig genomes and 708 modern and ancient teeth to trace these movements. Results show multiple introductions, gene flow, and diverse ancestries. Despite this, all pigs share distinct dental morphology and genetic ties to Chinese domestic pigs introduced with Austronesian speakers 4000–3000 years ago via Taiwan and the Philippines.
